My mom, Nora, is like, a total health nut. Breakfast is yogurt and fruit, lunch on the weekends is salad and chicken, and then she always does some kind of healthy grilled meat and veggies. Dad . . . well, he’s a little more chill about it. I mean, he’s a lot busier so he can’t cook as much.

Well, when I took Chelsea to the emergency room the doctors ran some tests and asked me about her symptoms. She was confused and disoriented. Just what I’ve learned here in the hospital. We’ve had a lot of different people come in and talk to us . . . and I’ve been reading a lot of articles on my phone. I’ve been reading about insulin, and uh, carb counting, but I don’t think it’s all sunk in.

Chelsea’s mom, Nora, and I are divorced. We split custody 50/50, so Chelsea stays with me for two weeks at a time, and then stays with her mom for two weeks. We try to set a good example and, you know, do the civil co-parenting thing.
