Academic Resource/Strategy 1
The first academic resource that may be useful to me as an MSN student are peer-reviewed journals. Examples of these are the OJIN: Online Journal of Issues in Nursing, The Journal for Nurse Practitioners, and the Journal for Holistic Nursing amongst others. As a postgraduate student, I need to have a wide knowledge base and have a grasp of the most current evidence-based practices. Journals are the best resource to provide the latest publications on research touching on these aspects. Also, being expected to conduct research and practice clinical inquiry as a postgraduate student, I will benefit immensely from reading journals. This is because they will train me on how to conduct research and present my research findings (Bond, n.d.).
Academic Resource/Strategy 2
The other academic resource for me as an MSN student are research databases for nursing such as CINAHL, Medline and Cochrane. As a postgraduate student I am expected to write projects and papers for my coursework. In order to accomplish this correctly, I need to have access to authoritative peer-reviewed journal articles. These are only accessible in repositories that are databases specific for storing peer-reviewed published nursing and healthcare articles. NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics For instance, CINAHL is the most expansive nursing database with articles that are in full-text form from a total of 768 journals. Medline has got full-text articles in healthcare, while Cochrane is a combination of six databases in one containing published peer-reviewed healthcare articles (Bond, n.d.).
Academic Resource/Strategy 3
The third is an academic strategy for the MSN student. Studying for the postgraduate master’s in nursing can either be full-time or part-time. It is imperative that the student chooses the most suitable time-frame to suit their needs as an academic strategy. This is because it would be difficult, for instance, for a working registered nurse (RN) to pursue the MSN degree as a full-time student. The reason is that they will be having work commitments that will interfere with full-time learning NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics. The best strategy for such a student would be a choice of part-time learning. Full-time MSN course typically takes 18 months to two years to complete. A part-time program, on the other hand, normally takes about three years (Cynthia et al., 2016).
Professional Resource/Strategy 1
On professional resources, the first one for an MSN student like me would be membership of a professional nursing association like the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the American Nurses Association (ANA). The professional associations provide the platform for postgraduate RNs with MSN to network with colleagues from all over the country and the rest of the world. The nurse is therefore able to acquire new ideas from elsewhere and learn from peers who have been in the profession longer than them. The associations also provide opportunities for leadership, advocacy, and dissemination of results of clinical inquiry (Bestmasterofscienceinnursing.com, n.d.) NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics.
Professional Resource/Strategy 2
The second professional resource are the respective state boards of nursing in each of the fifty states in the United States of America. These boards are concerned with licensure and regulation of nursing practice. They decide the scope of nursing practice in the state and set standards of nursing care to be adhered to by all nurses practicing within the boundaries of the state. All the boards collectively make up the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). It is the NCSBN that gives the National Council Licensure Examinations to RNs or NCLEX-RN. This is a necessity and important requirement before commencing practice (GraduateNursingEDU.org, n.d.).
Professional Resource/Strategy 3
The third professional resource for the MSN student are the various nursing certification organizations. Certification for the postgraduate RN is a mandatory requirement before licensure in any state for practice. Therefore, these organizations are an important professional resource in this regard. An example is the American Nurses Credentialing Centre or ANCC (Wolters Kluwer, 2013).
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES/STRATEGIES
The additional professional resource worth mentioning here are the annual conferences that are organized by professional nursing organizations like the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). These conferences provide opportunities for exchanging ideas and networking (Bond, n.d.).

There is a close and important relationship between writing and academic integrity. According to Tauginienė (2016), integrity is a core value in academia and a leading ethical principle. Integrity in academic writing means using only your ideas freely, but properly crediting other persons when you use their intellectual material, thoughts, and ideas. Nurses pursuing the MSN postgraduate degree write a lot of papers and articles on a myriad of relevant subjects such as physiology, social justice in healthcare, holistic nursing and so on. Doing this without reading the works of others is next to impossible. However, academic integrity expects them to include proper citations of the original authors of the thoughts written in their papers. Not doing so is blatant plagiarism which is unethical and tantamount to academic dishonesty (Marsh, 2018) NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics.
It follows that professional practices and scholarly ethics are therefore related. This is because as a student in academia, the student nurse studying for the MSN degree is required to exercise academic integrity during their postgraduate training. Of course, what they do in academia is the same thing that they will incorporate into their practice. For instance, an MSN nurse student who practices academic dishonesty or plagiarism during the program will most likely be dishonest too in their practice after graduation and licensure. This is a very dangerous situation as the nurse is a professional who deals with human life. Dishonesty and unethical behavior in any form may thus lead to the loss of life. This is reinforced by the fact that the nurse-patient relationship as we know it is a fiduciary relationship (the patient places trust on the nurse by allowing her to take care of them and know their medical history). In any case, good nursing practice can only be ethical nursing practice (Grace, 2018).
Several tools are available, luckily, for MSN nursing students and other students to maintain academic integrity. When used properly, these tools are able to rule out the presence of any form of academic cheating in student papers. As is known in the professions and the world of academia, plagiarism as an act has got very serious professional and academic ramifications. To avoid it, therefore, MSN students should include in their academic papers proper citations of sources consulted, paraphrase keenly and adequately, make use of quotations where necessary, utilize a plagiarism checker, and as much as possible use their own ideas (Calonia, 2019). One of the tools that can help maintain academic integrity is Grammarly. The application comes with an in-buit plagiarism checker that can be very helpful for the MSN nursing student in the detection of plagiarism in her papers before submission (Calonia, 2019). And even though Grammarly is primarily concerned with checking for grammatical mistakes in a piece of student and professional writing, it can also be helpful in properly citing sources in the student’s paper. The other assistive tool for academic integrity is the ability to properly paraphrase other people’s ideas in your own paper followed by proper citation of the source. To paraphrase is to rewrite another person’s information or ideas without altering the meaning of their original work (Calonia, 2019). Lastly but not least, the other tool for helping with academic integrity is Safe Assign. This software compares a submitted student paper to a large repository of previous student papers to detect similarities, hence plagiarism or academic dishonesty NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics.

PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:

Identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program, and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional. NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics

In the discussion so far, it is abundantly clear that the advanced practice nurse must devise strategies to both pursue and maintain academic and professional integrity and ethics. This she must do both as a student and later on as a qualified practitioner taking care of trusting patients and treating their illnesses. In doing this, the MSN nurse student must not forget that the profession of nursing is based on trust; and this relationship must ge guarded at all times. NURS 6003 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics Luckily, nurses have not been known to portray dishonesty in a general sense. As a matter of fact, nurses have been rated top in terms of professional integrity and honesty by a Gallup survey that was conducted recently (Aureus Medical Group, 2020). If an MSN nurse were to practice academic dishonesty while they are still a student, they will have been wired to take shortcuts and will therefore in all probability also be dishonest nursing professionals. The prospects of such a nurse handling treatments and prescriptions to patients on a daily basis are unfathomable. Take for instance the matter of scheduled controlled medications. An MSN nurse who had been used to academic dishonesty as a student would gladly lie about the details of an addicted patient and restock their medications without proper indication. The net effect is a compromised healthcare system with professionals who are harming patients instead of helping them to recover. Such a nurse of course also violates the bioethical principle of nonmaleficence or not causing harm to the patient.
As a student nurse, therefore, some of the strategies that can be useful in maintaining integrity and ethics are to always be original and to religiously check written academic papers for possible plagiarism before submission. As a qualified professional, strategies include never lying to patients by not doing what you say. The other is playing teamwork with colleagues who can point out mistakes (Aureus Medical Group, 2020).
